time to go home
On Saturday September 26th 2009, Mommy's water broke at 5:19AM with a "pop"! She wondered if she was imagining it, but then got up to go to the bathroom and felt a trickle. She woke Daddy and they got to the hospital an hour or so later. Mom had a chocolate fudge poptart that morning, remembering the rule to not eat, but soon wished she had had more, as she had a long day with only a lollipop and ice chips to eat! After waiting in the hall for what seemed like an eternity, with definite labor pains in action, they got a room. When the doc checked her she was at 3 cm (at 2 just 2 days before when Doc Hart stripped the membranes), and around 9 or 9:30 AM Mommy got her epidural. It took about 15 minutes to administer, and that 15 minutes was very very very long, Mommy says. Oh the pain. But once the epidural was in and Mommy could lay down, our nurse Michelle said Mommy got deleriously happy! Laughing and smiling for many hours after that. Then the nurses and docs made the mistake of telling Mommy that infection risk increases after 12 hours from the water breaking... so around 12 hours Mommy got nervous and shaky and her temperature starting going up. They thought she had a fever and put her on oxygen. She had lots of things attached to her: the epidural, catheter, O2 monitor on her finger, BP cuff, and mask! Well, after 14 hours, Mommy was ready to push... and very hungry! Yia Yia and Grandma were on speakerphone and with just 5 sets of pushes and just 15 minutes I was born!! My daddy cut the cord and it didn't hurt! At 7:24 PM, right when the nurses were changing shifts, I came into the world and started trying out my new vocal cords right away! They work! The birth canal was a pretty tight fit, so my head was cone shaped for a day, but it's all back to normal now! Phew! After I got weighed, 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and measured, 18 1/2 inches, and all sorts of other pocking and prodding, they put me in my mommy's arms. Ahhh, that felt good! Mommy seemed pretty happy to see me too! She and Daddy had huge smiles on their faces! We got our picture taken with our doctor too, she was really sweet! That night I had my first bath, it was terrible and I was sure to let those nurses know! Yia Yia and PaPa were there to meet me, too! They brought presents and food and hugs and love! That night I got to sleep with my mommy and poor daddy had to sleep on a narrow stiff chair/bed... what a trooper! What a day!! The next few days we spent in the hospital and then headed home on Monday. I wore my blue Polo onsie from my Aunt Doreen and Daddy put me in my car seat, which seemed so big! SO exciting... home, here we come!!
