I am 17 months old and Mommy took me to the dentist for the first time today. We went to Just For Kids Dentistry on Olive Ave in Redlands and saw Dr. Nichols. There were shamrocks hanging from the walls, balloons everywhere, balls and all sorts of sporty things on the walls, books to read and people in red shirts. I loved looking around and pointing to everything with a gasp. After playing with my cars in the waiting room and showing them to everyone I sat on Mommy's lap, leaned back into Dr. Nichols' lap and he looked at my teeth with his little mirror. He said Mommy and Daddy have been doing a good job brushing my teeth and that I can start using floride now. He wants to see me again in 6 months and said that I can suck my teeth until I am 3 or 4... well, maybe he didnt exactly say that, but that's how I interpret it. :) He also said what Dr. Clark said about the attached upper lip frenulum, dont worry about it unless it interferes with speech or something. He said most kids need braces anyway, so if my finger sucking or frenulum causes that in the future, so be it. Better than taking away something I need (comfort from my fingers) or getting scar tissue that may cause a gap into my teeth anyway. He also gave me all kinds of stuff! A blue monkey balloon, a clacker toy (I got to pick out of the draw of toys, a sticker, and a bag of tooth stuff: toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss - 2 kinds even, a coupon... oh, and becaude it is Dr. Suess's birthday today I also got a little Cat in the Hat notebook! Yup, the dentist isnt so bad, I dont know whyyyyy that other little boy came out crying! Geesh! :)
